SalesLoft gains tranformational insight from FullStory

SalesLoft was recently named one of Venture Atlanta’s 5 startups to watch in 2015. This is quite the honor, though it comes as little surprise to those in the know. SalesLoft is transforming the way sales teams gather information and reach out to prospective customers, and FullStory is happy to be one of many in their growing customer base. Tim Dorr is one of SalesLoft’s cofounders and is the lead architect for their SaaS product.

SalesLoft’s incredible growth has inevitably led to some growing pains. “We have a product that can be somewhat technical for (salespeople) who tend to be less technical,” Tim said. He and his team at first simply needed a way to better cater to their specific user base.

A solution found in FullStory

Fortunately, Tim was already familiar with FullStory as part of the local Atlanta entrepreneurial community. SalesLoft one of FullStory’s first customers, and while the SalesLoft team was expecting a useful tool, they instead got a “transformative, incredible experience.” Though other similar solutions require making preliminary assumptions about users, Tim appreciates FullStory because it is a “raw feed” of how people are using his product. “When you direct the customer on a path, you can’t predict what you don’t know. With FullStory, I don’t have to make any predictions to gain insight.”

Tim likes to call FullStory a “reality show” for the SalesLoft website, and it has informed the team of numerous necessary changes over the past several months. “Once a user was struggling to see a button that, according to the code, should have been appearing,” Tim noted. “Using FullStory, I was able to discover that the user’s workflow was causing us to generate content that pushed the button down the page in his browser. I was able to reproduce locally and push a fix to production 15 minutes later.”

Unexpected Benefits

The engineering team isn’t the only group at SalesLoft reaping the benefits of FullStory. Aly Merritt, SalesLoft’s support team lead, quickly became a fan because of how FullStory reduces repetitive and friction-inducing steps in the support process. “FullStory eliminates so many steps in the middle: finding a phone number, trying to schedule and reschedule, screen-sharing over bad internet connections... none of it is necessary anymore!”

SalesLoft also uses FullStory to supplement their experience in other products. For months, they have been using UserVoice’s Idea Exchange internally, and they even helped FullStory build the integration. Additionally, the SalesLoft team integrated FullStory and ZenDesk so that they can get FullStory session links on inbound tickets.
